Bobbitt Family records.

There are few positive records that members of our Bobbitt families lived in Arkansas before 1845. The 1840 census lists only two families which might be part of our family history. Lydia Bobbett with a large family in Poinsett County, and likely the widow of Simpson¹ Bobbitt of Maury County, Tennessee(NOT her spouse). The other family was a Lewis Bobbett living in Union County.
For some reason, Arkansas had several families of New England "Babbitt" origin. Bobbitt families which are part of our family history lived in Greene County. Poinsett County was formed from Green in 1838.
We have very little information about the family of Simpson¹ Bobbitt. He was born in North Carolina and we believe that he was a son of John and Mary Hazelwood Bobbitt. He was born in 1788 and is listed only in the 1830 census records of Maury County, Tennessee.

We believe that Simpson¹ Bobbitt and his wife left Tennessee about 1837 and shortly thereafter Simpson1 Bobbitt either died or was killed. His wife Lydia Bobbitt (NOT) was counted in the Poinsett County census of 1840.

Simpson Bobbitt¹ was born in 1788, his wife was born in 1790, married in 1814, not unusual for women of this time, and their first child was a son born in 1815. By 1840 some of the girls and a son or two were married and away from home. In any event we think that the three families listed in the 1850 census of Greene County Arkansas are descendants of Simpson and Lydia Bobbitt.There is more work than theory to our conclusion. We have searched all the records and cannot find any Bobbitt families which will account for these families in Greene County. Furthermore these families and their descendants live in this county to the present time.
